‼️WORLD WETLAND DAY 2025 Sitio Luacan, Brgy. Paraiso, Milagros, Masbate

The DENR-Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) Mobo, Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) Masbate, and the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) Milagros, celebrated World Wetlands Day at Luacan Elementary School, Paraiso, Milagros, on February 2, 2025. This year’s event centered around the theme “Protecting Wetlands for Our Common Future” and aimed to raise awareness about the critical role of wetlands in the community’s well-being while promoting wetland conservation efforts. Luacan, known for its significant wetland areas, was an ideal location for the celebration. The event highlighted the vital functions of wetlands, such as supporting biodiversity and controlling floods. Wetlands also play an essential role in the local economy, providing livelihoods and resources for the community. World Wetlands Day marks the anniversary of the adoption of the Ramsar Convention in Ramsar City, Iran, on February 2, 1971. The Philippine government began observing National Wetlands Day on the same date in 1995 under Presidential Decree No. 74, which declared February 2 every year as National Wetlands Day. CENRO Mobo, under the leadership of Jean B. Imperial, played a significant role in facilitating the event. CENRO representatives conducted a brief lecture and forum on the importance of wetlands and their contributions to environmental sustainability. Discussions covered key topics, including the importance of wetlands, wildlife conservation, solid waste management, and the Enhanced National Greening Program (eNGP). PENRO Masbate, led by Benito B. Salazar, also provided support and additional insights into conservation efforts at the provincial level. The event was made possible by Ms. Mary Mae V. Bantillo, Principal of Luacan Elementary School, whose assistance was instrumental in bringing the celebration to life. Information Education Communication (IEC) materials, such as flyers, were distributed to participants during the event to enhance their understanding of wetland protection and sustainable environmental practices. The event brought together students, teachers, and community members, all committed to learning more about protecting and preserving wetlands for future generations. #WorldWetlandDay2025 #ZeroWasteMilagros #MilagrosTODAY
