“Ending Global Plastic Pollution – Together, we can #BeatPlasticPollution,”

LOOK: In celebration of Philippine Environment Month this June and support of the national theme “Ending Global Plastic Pollution – Together, we can #BeatPlasticPollution,” the Municipality of Milagros, under the leadership of Hon. Natividad Isabel R. Magbalon, M.D., Municipal Mayor, and the direct supervision of Carmen B. Cortes, EnP, Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Officer, officially launched the “Basura Balyo Bugas” program as part of the Municipality’s Zero Waste initiative. The “Basura Balyo Bugas” is an incentive-driven Zero Waste program designed to encourage the collection, segregation, and recycling of plastic waste, thereby preventing plastic litter from polluting rivers, coastal waters, and marine ecosystems. This initiative not only addresses environmental concerns but also provides social support by offering rice in exchange for collected plastic waste, particularly benefiting senior citizens. The program was formally launched on June 19, 2025, in Barangay Jamorawon, with the active participation of 79 senior citizens. A total of approximately 228.875 kilograms of plastic sachets and 197.625 kilograms of plastic bottles were collected during the activity. Subsequent launching activities were conducted on June 20, 2025, in Barangay Poblacion East and Barangay Poblacion West. In Poblacion East, 36 senior citizens participated, collecting approximately 101 kilograms of plastic sachets and 160 kilograms of plastic bottles. Meanwhile, in Poblacion West, 20 senior citizens were in attendance, resulting in the recovery of 121.5 kilograms of plastic sachets and 52.5 kilograms of plastic bottles. As part of the advocacy and education component, the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) also conducted an Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) campaign focusing on Republic Act No. 9003, or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000, to raise public awareness on proper waste handling and environmental protection. The “Basura Balyo Bugas” program aligns with the Municipality’s 10-year Solid Waste Management Plan, strengthening its commitment to Zero Waste by promoting waste diversion, pollution prevention, and community participation. #ZeroWasteMilagros #BeatPlasticPollution #BasuraBalyoBugas #MENRO #MilagrosMasbate PLEASE CLICK LINK FOR MORE: https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1CqbDBBHBs/
