Magsalangi FMR in Milagros, Masbate undergoes final inspection

Stretching across several barangays, the Concreting of Magsalangi Farm-to-Market Road (FMR) in Milagros, Masbate serves as a vital link for farmers and residents, helping them transport goods, access basic services, and reach local markets. For many communities in the area, the road is more than just a passageway—it is a lifeline that supports daily activities and livelihoods. As part of its commitment to improve the rural infrastructure, the Department of Agriculture – Philippine Rural Development Project (DA-PRDP), through its National Project Coordination Office, Project Support Office South Luzon, and Regional Project Coordination Office V, conducted a final inspection on the said FMR on January 27-30, 2026. The inspection aimed to ensure that the subproject was implemented in accordance with approved plans, technical standards, and quality requirements. With the upgraded road, traffic is projected to increase by about 2% annually. Hauling costs for farm inputs and produce using motorized vehicles are expected to drop from PhP65–148 per sack to PhP33–74. Transport losses for agricultural products will also decrease, from 4.57% to 1.43% for crops, 1.67% to 1.17% for livestock, and 3.0% to 2.5% for fisheries. Travel time will be significantly reduced, from 90 minutes to just 18 minutes, saving about 65% of travel time. Beyond easing daily travel, the improved road is expected to stimulate economic activity in the area. Better connectivity can encourage the flow of goods and services, open livelihood opportunities, and strengthen local trade among communities served by the FMR. Through continuous monitoring and quality inspections of rural infrastructure projects, DA-PRDP underscores its commitment to sustainable development and inclusive growth—ensuring that FMRs deliver long-term benefits for farmers, residents, and local economies alike. #MilagrosTODAY #PRDPScaleUp #PRDPSouthLuzon Click here: https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1AL5GQgUzn/
