To beat plastic pollution, the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) of Milagros joins the nation in celebrating Philippine Environment Month 2025 with the theme
“Ending Global Plastic Pollution — Together We Can
#BeatPlasticPollution.”
In support of this campaign, the LGU Milagros has linked its scholarship program to an environmental initiative. Each of the 683 scholars was required to submit five eco-brick bottles, each weighing approximately 500 grams.
This collective effort resulted in the collection of an estimated 3,414 eco-bricks, equivalent to approximately 1,707 kilograms of plastic waste repurposed.
An eco-brick is a plastic bottle densely packed with used plastic to create a reusable building block that achieves plastic sequestration. The concept behind eco-bricks is to utilize and upcycle post-consumer plastic, giving it a second life instead of letting it pollute the environment.
These bricks can be used for eco-friendly construction, such as garden furniture, benches, and even walls.
This initiative not only supports the educational aspirations of Milagros youth but also reflects the municipality’s commitment to sustainability.
