The **Local Government Unit (LGU) of Milagros**, under the leadership of **Hon. Natividad Isabel R. Magbalon, M.D.**, through the **Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO)** under the supervision of **Carmen B. Cortes, EnP.**, continues to strengthen its commitment to **ZERO WASTE Milagros** through environmental education and community awareness.
The activity focused on helping the citizens of Milagros understand **where their solid waste goes after collection** and, more importantly, how proper waste segregation, reduction, reuse, recycling, and responsible disposal can significantly reduce the volume of waste generated in the municipality.
During the activity, **Environmental Management Specialist II (EMS II) Grant V. Espinosa, MPA**, together with **Park Attendant II Niño S. Fernandez** and **Administrative Aide IV Joey C. Panillos**, explained the importance of proper solid waste management and the role of every citizen in reducing waste at its source.
The MENRO staff emphasized that the best waste is the waste that is never generated. Through proper segregation and the recovery of recyclable and reusable materials, the amount of waste that needs to be transported and disposed of can be greatly reduced. This helps prevent waste from ending up in inappropriate places and contributes to a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable community.
As part of the activity, the MENRO team also demonstrated the process of creating eco-bricks using waste glass and other appropriate materials. The demonstration introduced the concept of transforming materials that are commonly regarded as waste into useful products through proper resource recovery and recycling.
This initiative forms part of the continuing efforts of ZERO WASTE Milagros to promote environmental responsibility, strengthen public awareness, and encourage every household, establishment, and community to become an active partner in proper waste management.
Through collective action, Milagros can reduce waste, recover valuable materials, and keep our environment clean for future generations.
